Description of Significance THE BLACKWELL ARMORY IS A TWO STORY BRICK BUILDING CONSTRUCTED BY THE WPA IN 1936. UNLIKE OTHER ARMORIES IN THE AREA, THIS EXAMPLE IS BUILT FROM BRICK INSTEAD OF NATIVE STONE. LIKE OTHER ARMORIES IN THE AREA, THE BUILDING EXHIBITS ART DECO DETAILS IN A SIMPLIFIED FORM. THE CONSTRUCTION PROJECT POURED WAGES FROM SOME 68,000 MAN HOURS OF LABOR INTO THE LOCAL ECONOMY AT A TIME WHEN MANY FARMERS WERE OUT OF WORK. LISTED IN THE NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES, 9/8/88.
